Why gossip?

Maybe some people feel superior and temporarily feel better when they judge others, maybe simply because they do not feel good about themselves. Some people who cannot create interesting discussions based on knowledge or ideas, gossiping can awaken their interests. So, they gossip out of boredom. Some people gossip in order to hurt those whose popularity, talents or lifestyles they envy. Some people gossip for attention. A person gets to be the center of attention temporarily while divulging a piece of gossip. Yet, spreading gossip is like buying attention- it is temporary and has little foundation. Some people gossip out of anger or unhappiness.

Gossiping shows the gossiper's insecurity and mean-spiritedness.

It also leaves everyone involved feeling as though they have just eaten a bad apple.

People who gossip about you are really suffering from serious issues and that there is no other explanation for gossiping other than an emotional imbalance that is affecting the gossiper's behaviour.

How to deal with it?

Most of the time, as soon as you heard about the gossip, it pissed you off, you confronted them and would really, really love to give them a big punch. This will only show them how badly you were hurt by the gossip and how fragile you are.

It may also be a struggle to take a few days to calm down and try to assess the size of the damage that could happen to your reputation as a result of the gossip. Or try to understand the main cause behind the gossip and the factors involved in order to be able to predict whether this will happen once again or not.

Still, it is very important to maintain your prestige when dealing with gossipers.

It is very important to be considerate enough to talk to them nicely and tell them that you are aware of their doings, just make sure not to threat them, it will definitely give them more reasons to spread a gossip about you. Besides, there is always a room for a decent talk.

But what's the best option for me?

Oh well, if someone is gossiping about you, keep on sending them good news about you to keep them burning with their own fire :D
